Launch of the Association of Digital Finance Practitioners (ADFP) in Zambia

Digital Frontiers Institute (DFI) are proud to have been part of the launch of the Association for Digital Finance Practitioners (ADFP) in Zambia. ADFP was formed in 2018 by DFI alumni and members of our Zambian Community of Practice (CoP) and was officially launched and registered on 14th March 2019.

The ADFP was endorsed by the Bank of Zambia, who welcomed the support that it will give them in the digital financial services (DFS) sector. The Bank of Zambia also recognised the significant role that DFI has played in developing capacity of digital finance professionals in the country.

The launch was well attended by around 70 DFS professionals, representing a variety of organisations within the DFS sector, including regulatory authorities Bank of Zambia and the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority; financial services providers Zanaco, FNB, the Zambian National Building Society, Access Bank, AB Bank, Zoona, Atlas Mara and Indo Zambia Bank; mobile network operators MTN and Airtel; and development organisations Financial Sector Deepening Zambia and UNCDF.

The key objective of ADFP is to promote the use and improvement of digital finance products and services by offering technical advice in building the DFS ecosystem, promoting quality of service in mobile connectivity and consumer protection. The association also plans to promote payment systems sensitization, innovation, financial inclusion advocacy, promoting competition and interoperability, advocating sustainability and enable financial markets to work for the poor by continuously sharing ideas among the practitioners.

Members are also available to support the country under the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and will also provide organisations in the DFS space with capacity building, research and consultancy support.
