UNESCO’s Internet universality indicators: a framework for assessing Internet development

UNESCO has produced a Framework for Assessing Internet Development, based on the four ROAM categories:

R – that the internet is based on Human Rights

O – that it is Open

A – that it should be Accessible to all, and

M – that it is nurtured by Multistakeholder participation.

Safety, gender, children, sustainable development and legalities are cross-cutting indicators that feature across the model.

 

The internet is a vital component that facilitates digitalisation and achievements of the SDGs, and its benefits need to be universally available for all. The Framework can be accessed here.
