The State of Social Safety Nets

The State of Social Safety Nets 2018 compiles, analyzes, and disseminates data and developments at the forefront of the social safety net (SSN)/social assistance (SA) agenda. This series of periodic reports is part of broader efforts to monitor implementation
progress of the World Bank 2012–2022 Social Protection and Labor Strategy against the strategic goals of increasing coverage—especially among the poor—and enhancing the poverty impact of the programs.

This third edition of The State of Social Safety Nets examines trends in coverage, spending, and program performance using the World Bank Atlas of Social Protection Indicators of Resilience and Equity (ASPIRE) updated database. The book documents the main safety net programs that exist around the world and their use to alleviate poverty and build shared prosperity.
