We received the sad news yesterday of the passing of Ann Muhangi. Ann was our COP facilitator in Uganda and the driving force behind the establishment of their professional association, Digital Frontiers Association (DFA).
Ann was passionate about financial literacy and improving lives. She was an educator, coach, mentor, motivational speaker, and pioneer of savings groups. She inspired those around her and helped so many people with her spirit, joy encouragement and wise advice. Her motto was “I wake up to live, to learn & to laugh.”
Ann always found time to support the DFI students and alumni in Uganda as well as sharing her experiences with other COP facilitators who were following her lead and establishing professional associations in their country. She was a pillar of our community and a friend. She will be missed by so many. She leaves a legacy of empowered DFS professionals and an association that is influencing financial inclusion and the development of the digital finance profession in Uganda.
To honor her memory DFI will be offering some scholarships for our next Certificate in Digital Money course and will also be holding a special COP meeting in Kampala. Both of these will be facilitated by the DFA and we are grateful for their help in this tribute. The COP meeting will have a focus on financial education, Ann’s passion. She recorded a webinar with DFI on this topic in 2019, which can be watched here. A date for this COP meeting will be set once covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.
Rest in peace Ann, you will always have a place in our hearts and know your work will be continued.
