[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”13014″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We held our first Digital Identity Week in November 2020. Led by David Porteous, Nolwazi Hlophe, and Sarah Corley, we discussed industry updates and the implementation of digital identity systems, also with the help industry experts: Professor Rajagopalan from MOSIP, Robert Karanja from Omidyar Network and Yiannis Theodorou, from GSMA’s Digital Identity programme.

We also held a live case study to give our community the opportunity to discuss a real-life digital identity case with their peers. It was a great opportunity to showcase knowledge and ideas whilst learning from like-minded individuals. The case study was centered on eSwatini, a small country between South Africa and Mozambique. The Central Bank of eSwatini have ambitious plans to introduce e-KYC (the remote, paperless process that reduces the costs and traditional bureaucracy required in KYC processes) with the aim to increase financial inclusion. We are grateful to the Central Bank of eSwatini, and in particular to Philile Nxumalo and Sifiso Mashwama, for their openness and contribution to the case study and Digital Identity Week. We also congratulate Beryl Spoor van Andel, Edward Njuguna, Indrakshi Banerjee and Tariro Nyimo for producing the winning presentation as part of the case study.

We had a fantastic week and it is great to know that the Central Bank of eSwatini found the week and the participant contribution to the case study useful, and as did many of the participants who all voted we should run another DID week in 2021.

We have produced this DID Week 2020 Final Summary document which you can download and save for future reference. It also contains links to our YouTube channel where you can watch recordings of the live discussions.

You can also download the following presentations, which are mentioned in the Digital Identity Week Summary document:

We are also grateful to Omidyar Network for funding a number of our activities this year including the update of our Digital Identity Course and DID week.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
