Women are selling goods and services or acting as intermediaries, delivery people, or suppliers, to online commerce platforms. We still see that women are concentrated in particular sectors, nonetheless, women are paving the way for one another in areas like ride-hailing as well. Informal online commerce is a term that has been coined to describe women buying and selling products and services using social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp. Often initially among their personal networks, and then expanding further.
