Mitigating Women’s Safety Concerns with Mobile: A Case Study of Vodafone Idea’s Sakhi service

In October 2018, Vodafone Idea Ltd launched Sakhi, a service to address key barriers women face to accessing and using mobile in India, as well as women’s concerns about personal safety – both the safety issues and threats that may arise from owning a mobile and general safety concerns that women experience that mobile could help address.

This case study from the GSMA documents early evidence of Sakhi’s social impact and Vodafone’s key success factors in meeting the needs of female customers. It also provides practical recommendations for mobile operators and other stakeholders interested in reaching female customers with a similar service.
